Drawers – No more Scooting

PROBLEM: It is frustrating when everything scoots to the back of the drawer.

SOLUTION: Put something in the back of the drawer to hold this space… empty boxes or tupperware. You can put less used items in these containers. Or you can leave them empty knowing that their purpose is to make it easier to get things out of the front.

HINT: If the boxes move around, add non-slip drawer liners.

Space Saver – Change Direction

PROBLEM: I wish I’d have a bit more space in my kitchen drawers.

SOLUTION: Change the direction of your utensils. If all the handles are pointing in the same direction there is excess space with the handles and not enough space with the heads.

HINT: You can use this concept with all sorts of things:
garden tools, shoes, and forks and spoons.

Roll, Fold, Divide

PROBLEM: I have white crew neck and v-neck t- shirts. I like to wear them at different times but in my drawer I can’t keep track of which white t-shirt is which.

SOLUTION: The one kind of t-shirt you can fold and the other kind of t-shirt you can roll. The rolling of one and folding of the other makes a natural divider in your drawer.

HINT: You can also use color to form natural dividers. For example, instead of having all your white bikinis and hispters in one drawer you can have your white bikinis, dark bikinis, white hipsters, then dark hipsters in one drawer.

Leftover Space as an Organizing Tool

PROBLEM: Sometimes I don’t have the right sized container for a space.

SOLUTION: Think of the leftover space in a drawer or shelf as a container. Leftover space is the space that is created between organizing boxes or baskets and the size of the drawer. In the picture, the left hand side of the drawer doesn’t have it’s own metal container but it is the perfect space for larger plastic serving spoons.

HINT: Differently sized organizing boxes or baskets can be configured to make differently sized and shaped leftover spaces to fit your needs.
